Wind Cave National Park
Project Details:
Seventeen short films - eleven indigenous films, four cave exploration films and two animated films.
Eight audio stories.
Two immersive soundscapes.
Two interactives.
Wind Cave in South Dakota is one of only a few ‘breathing’ caves in the world and is central to the origin story of the Lakota people. Wind Cave is also one of the largest caves in the world; every year scientists and explorers map additional portions of the cave’s furthest reaches. So far, 150 miles of cave system have been discovered, yet some estimates place its true extent at ten times that size. On behalf of the exhibit fabricator, Split Rock Studios, we produced all of the audio-visual and interactive media for the new permanent exhibits at the Wind Cave National Park Visitor Center.
Highlights included journeying deep into the cave system to create a series of films profiling different cave scientists doing cutting edge research, including the discovery of novel energy sources that have implications for interplanetary research and discovery. We also had the privilege of interviewing thirteen elders from seven different tribes about the significance of this extraordinary place. In addition, we produced many audio stories, immersive soundscapes, multiple animated films, and in partnership with our friends at NGX, a series of interactives including a large touchscreen that allows visitors to explore the entire known cave network modeled in 3D.
